Senior Technician (Power Electronics)

You will work within a team of electrical / electronic technical staff supporting laboratory facilities and associated teaching and project activity within the Department of Engineering and Technology. Your principal responsibility will be the operation, maintenance and further development of the power and electrical motors and generators facilities. You must have experience of operating 3 phase electrical power, using electrical motors and generators and using mechanical systems.  Knowledge of electrical and power systems and the ability to read technical drawings will be essential as well as being computer literate, covering the full range of Microsoft Office software packages.  You will need to have good communication skills and be able to interface with suppliers, industry and contractors.  You will also need to be able to demonstrate knowledge of and experience of working within Health and Safety policies and procedures.

You must be willing to develop new knowledge and skills, be self motivated and work in an organised, logical and tidy manner.  You must be capable of learning to operate new systems and equipment and be able to develop the laboratories to support the requirement of the Engineering and Technology Department. It is expected that the post holder will have an HNC or equivalent in a relevant engineering subject, but a degree would also be desirable.
