NIHR Trainees Coordinating Centre

(Fixed Term until 31 March 2019, extension to 2023 anticipated)

The NIHR Trainees Coordinating Centre (TCC), based in Leeds, is looking for an experienced programme support officer to join a small team supporting the training provided by the NIHR’s Infrastructure with a remit to build academic research capacity, including Biomedical Research Centres (BRCs) and Collaborations for Leadership in Applied Health Research and Care (CLARHCs).

This post will support a national programme of existing activities as well as a revised programme of work being developed with the Chair of the NIHR Infrastructure Training Forum and the NIHR Dean for Faculty Trainees.

The NIHR TCC forms part of the National Institute for Health Research (NIHR), which was established by the Department of Health April 2006 with the aim of creating a health research system in which the NHS supports outstanding individuals, working in world class facilities, conducting leading edge research focused on the needs of patients and the public.

The NIHR TCC is based in Leeds and contributes to one of the key goals of the NIHR Faculty, which is to attract, develop and retain the best research professionals to conduct people-based research.

The core work of the NIHR TCC involves:

  • Developing and managing all aspects of the NIHR Fellowship Scheme which offers support for national research training at PhD, post-doctoral, career scientist and senior research levels;
  • Managing the establishment of NIHR Integrated Academic Training programmes on a national basis for those in specialist medical and dental training who want to pursue an academic career;
  • Managing the establishment of NIHR Integrated Clinical Academic (ICA) programmes on a national basis for nurses, midwives and allied health professionals;
  • Management of Clinician Scientist and Research Professor programmes;
  • Management and establishment of jointly funded schemes and new initiatives.

The NIHR TCC is also involved in other areas of strategic work and development.
