As the Director of Studies for ordinands from the Diocese of Manchester training with All Saints Centre for Mission and Ministry, you will support and resource women and men who train through the All Saints Centre for Mission and Ministry [All Saints].

You will share in teaching and formation, and the running of the Programmes, as part of the Course Management Team.

All Saints is based at the Warrington Campus of the University of Chester.

This is a full-time post working for the Diocese of Manchester but in practice much of your work will be overseen by the Principal of All Saints as the main focus of the work is with All Saints. You will have a base at Church House in the centre of Manchester but will need to meet with students across the diocese and access the course in its various centres.


You will be employed by the Diocesan Board of Finance as a member of the Mission and Ministry Department, led by the Director of Mission and Ministry. The post sits in the Healthy Churches Team and is line-managed by the Healthy Churches Team Leader. Because so much of the work is with and for All Saints, the Principal of All Saints directs the day-to-day priorities for the job.

Key Tasks

  1. Director of Studies for ordinands studying at All Saints
  2. Module Leader and Tutor at All Saints
  3. Member of the Course Management Team of All Saints, helping ensure the overall effective running of the Course
  4. Working with the Director of Vocations and the Course in developing the best training and formation for ordinands and others training through All Saints

The post blends a teaching role and a pastoral role, as well as sharing in the wider management of course programmes; at the heart is the formation of ordinands for Anglican Ministry.

Reader candidates also train through All Saints, so you will work with the Directors of Studies for Reader candidates

Subsidiary Tasks

  1. To participate in the work of the Mission & Ministry Department as and when required
  2. To work singly or in groups, as required, on relevant projects which has been given particular priority by the Diocesan Synod or Bishop’s Council
  3. To perform such other duties that may be required to pursue the purpose of the Mission & Ministry Department and the Diocese

Summary of Terms & Conditions of Employment

Employer: Manchester Diocesan Board of Finance (MDBF)
Line Manager: Healthy Churches Team Leader  
Probation: Appointments subject to a 6-month probationary period
Location:  The post is based at Church House in central Manchester
Hours: The role is full time (35 hours per week)
Salary: Diocesan pay scale band 4.1 – 4.3 (£27,645 – £33,012)
Pension: The MDBF offers membership of the Church Workers Pension Fund– Pension Builder Classic product

There is an Occupational Requirement for the post holder to be a practising Christian of a denomination which is a member of Churches Together in Britain and Ireland in accordance with Schedule 9 to the Equality Act 2010.

The post is open to lay or ordained Christians who are members of the Church of England or a church of the CTBI. Anglican ministers who apply should have a current licence or permission to officiate from their Bishop. All applicants must be eligible to work in the UK.
