Grade 7: £30,688 - £38,833 per annum. Potential to progress to £42,418 per annum through sustained exceptional contribution.

We are looking for a talented Senior Communications Officer to join the central marketing and communications team at the University of Sheffield Advanced Manufacturing Research centre (AMRC).

The AMRC is a world-class centre for research into advanced manufacturing technologies used in the aerospace, automotive, construction, power generation, medical and other high-value manufacturing sectors. The centre has a global reputation for helping companies overcome manufacturing problems and has become a model for collaborative research involving universities, academics and industry worldwide.

As one of two Senior Communications Officers taking the lead from the Head of Communications and the Marketing Manager, you will be responsible for contributing to the planning and delivering AMRC-wide communications activities. You will create compelling content that showcases the impact of our research and help build our international reputation as a leader in advanced manufacturing. This will also involve both bespoke content development and engagement with web tools and other digital channels - working across a range of channels every day, including the website, microsites, social media and on-site digital screens.

You will have impeccable professional skills in writing, editing, content development, story research, interviewing, fact-checking and experience of liaising and maintaining good relationships with the press.

You will prepare copy for high-profile projects including intensive writing and storytelling components; compose and edit persuasive, accurate, engaging copy for a variety of media; edit material from others within the AMRC and develop for a variety of marketing applications, ensuring consistency with the AMRC’s brand and voice.

You will:

  • Have a good honours degree in journalism, marketing, PR, communications, engineering or other relevant subject (or equivalent experience)
  • Have relevant experience of professional writing in a media organisation, agency environment and/or a corporate or institutional setting
  • Be a highly productive self-starter with excellent organisational and time management skills
  • Be able to handle multiple projects and effectively manage competing or evolving priorities and tight deadlines
  • Have proven success writing for publication in print, web and other digital platforms
  • Have well-developed interpersonal, negotiating and communication abilities; ability to work within teams and interact with different stakeholders and sectors.
