The Colchester campus offers a range of excellent indoor and outdoor sports facilities.  Our gym has 180 stations including four Olympic lifting platforms, a push track and a functional training area, with around 4000 members.

Due for completion in December 2017, the new £12 million Essex Sports Arena will provide one of the best indoor facilities in the U.K. for basketball, volleyball and netball, and will sit alongside our existing sports hall in providing opportunities for students, staff and public to engage in indoor sport. The newly formed School of Sport, Rehabilitation and Exercises Sciences will be integrated in to the new facility and includes the Human Performance Unit applied sports science centre, as well as leading academics and practitioners in the fields of sports science and coaching.

An exciting opportunity has arisen in Essex Sport for a Business Development Manager.

Duties of the role
In support of the objectives associated with the new sports facilities, the Essex Sport Business Development Manager will have responsibility for maximising revenue associated with the hire of sports facilities and attracting sponsors, as well as working closely with our marketing team to maximise sales and retention of memberships. The post holder will ensure that all stakeholder commitments are satisfied.

Additionally, an exciting part of this role will be assisting with the development of a fan base for rapidly developing national league sports teams. The post holder will also have line management responsibility for the administration team, responsibility for systems and processes relating to sales, customer service and communication.

This post requires flexibility to work occasional weekends and evenings and to travel to meetings around the U.K. and overseas as and when required.

Skills and qualifications required
The successful candidate will hold a relevant degree or a substantial relevant experience. You will be knowledgeable in sales processes and experienced in delivering excellent customer service standards. It is essential that you can demonstrate the ability to provide operational leadership and manage a team in a sales and customer service environment. You will also be able to demonstrate a successful track record of meeting sales targets, and will ideally have a thorough understanding of the sports and fitness sector, and have extensive contacts in sporting organisations. Some knowledge and experience of event organisation and management would also be advantageous.
