Tutor in Theology - Systematic Theology and Church History

Oak Hill College

Location: Oak Hill College, Southgate, London

Start Date: From September 2018

Oak Hill College is a leading Christian theological college equipping students for ministry as an Enhanced Validated Partner of Middlesex University.

Its students study to degree level and specialise in either pastoral ministry, cross-cultural ministry, or ministry to children and young people. Oak Hill provides full-time and part-time training, in a residential learning and worshipping community.

The College is looking for someone to help form and equip future ministers by teaching Theology with particular responsibility for Systematic Theology and Church History at CertHE, FdA, BA(Hons) and postgraduate levels.

Principal Accountabilities

  • To be responsible for delivering modules in Systematic Theology and Church History, including advanced modules, on the direction of the Acting Principal and the Acting Academic Dean. Modules in other areas may also be prepared and taught where appropriate.
  • To play a full part in the academic administration of the College, attending all committees and board meetings as directed by the Acting Principal and the Acting Academic Dean, and taking on specific roles in that administration from time to time. Other commitments will include the interviewing of new students and participation in recruitment activities.
  • To mark exams and essays and fulfil other assessment requirements as directed by the Acting Academic Dean and to be available to help students at an individual level, where required, with their studies.
  • To take charge of a Fellowship Group and to accept responsibility for the leadership of that group and the personal nurture and encouragement of the students within it. This necessitates the writing of a report on students at the end of each academic year and requires time to be spent with students dealing with personal, academic and other matters as appropriate.
  • To participate in the life of the College in every way possible, including attendance at chapel, leading services and preaching as invited.
  • To research, write and publish in their field where appropriate.

There is an Occupational Requirement that the post-holder is a Christian. The Equality Act 2010 applies.  The post-holder understands, holds to and lives out the theological position, aims and objectives of the college.
