PhD Studentship: White Rose Consortium

University of York

York Law School invites applications from prospective PhD students for funded scholarships commencing October 2018 from the White Rose Consortium.

The White Rose University Consortium is a strategic partnership between 3 of the UK’s leading research universities: the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield and York. This partnership has been in place since 1997, and has had considerable success in enabling these institutions to build on their individual strengths by collaborating across research, enterprise, innovation, and learning and teaching.

See https://www.whiterose.ac.uk/

This collaboration has given rise to a number of student-facing initiatives, including access to studentship awards from the ESRC and AHRC.

Calls for both are currently open as follows:

1. White Rose College of Arts and Humanities Awards (WRoCAH)

WRoCAH is the Doctoral partnership across the Universities of York, Leeds and Sheffield which is responsible for the distribution of AHRC-funded studentships for these universities and for the coordination of a doctoral training programme.

For general information please see: http://wrocah.ac.uk/, and relating to the student competition specifically http://wrocah.ac.uk/new-student/ahrc-competition/

WRoCAH is able to offer around 50 AHRC studentships per year to candidates with a place for doctoral study at the Universities of Leeds, Sheffield or York. Details of the scheme and how to apply are here:

The deadline for applications is 24 January 2018, at 5 p.m.

Informal enquiries are welcome, and should be directed to: YLS Postgraduate Research Administration: law-pg-admissions@york.ac.uk or Dr Sarah Wilson s.wilson@york.ac.uk

2. White Rose Doctoral Training Partnership (WRDTP) Studentships

This year’s call continues the transition made by the ESRC from Doctorial Training Centres to Doctoral Training Partnerships. Last year the White Rose Consortium sought to build on the success of the White Rose Doctoral Training Centre collaboration between the universities of Sheffield, York and Leeds to offer even more extensive opportunities around cross-disciplinary study in Social Sciences, by drawing in Social Science research excellence of the universities of Bradford, Hull, Manchester Metropolitan and Sheffield Hallam. As this continues this year, a total of 39 of these studentships are allocated to the White Rose Consortium annually.
