The William Harvey Research Institute (WHRI) is based within the John Vane Science Centre on the Charterhouse Square Campus of Barts and The London School of Medicine & Dentistry, within Queen Mary University of London. The WHRI has three core strategic themes: Inflammation, Cardiovascular and Endocrinology with a mix of basic scientists and clinicians benefitting from strong links with Bart’s and The London NHS Trust.

Applications are invited for an experienced Postdoctoral Research Assistant to assist with investigations into pro-resolving and tissue regenerative actions of a novel class of host protective molecules termed as specialized pro-resolving mediators (SPM). The project will involve the establishing of the role of SPM in regulating innate and adaptive immune responses as well as promoting tissue regeneration in rheumatoid arthritis.

Applicants should hold a relevant PhD degree a broad interest in immunobiology, cell signalling, analytical chemistry and/or biochemistry. Research experience in small lipid-based molecules and their associated analysis using liquid chromatography and mass spectrometry is highly desirable. Experience in molecular biology, analytical chemistry, biochemistry techniques is desirable but full training will be provided. The post requires good communication, attention to detail, good organisational skills and computer skills. Multivariate data analysis will be an important part of the project and experience of R or Python would be a distinct advantage, although a motivated candidate could develop these skills by following appropriate components of QMUL’s Bioinformatics MSc. You will be expected to be highly motivated and dynamic in pursuing your goals, extremely accurate in recording data, and will be closely supervised by the principal investigator Dr Jesmond Dalli the Director of the QMUL Lipid Mediator Unit (www.whri.qmul.ac.uk/staff-all/staff-research/586-dalli-jesmond).

The appointment will be for 2 years in the first instance. The starting salary will be in the range £32,956 - £38,709 per annum inclusive of London Allowance. Benefits include 30 days annual leave, defined benefit pension scheme and interest-free season ticket loan.

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
