Main Purpose of the post

Wales Higher Education Libraries Forum (WHELF) is seeking to appoint an imaginative, enthusiastic and highly motivated Development Officer to support its growing range of activities. WHELF is the professional forum for leaders of Higher Education, National, and related library services across Wales. The successful candidate will demonstrate a creative, innovative and positive attitude, and will have excellent coordination, organization, project delivery and interpersonal skills. You will work closely with library staff across Wales and will be expected to liaise and communicate effectively with senior library staff, Welsh Government, and external partners. You will be a qualified librarian and show commitment to continuing professional development.

The ability to speak and write in Welsh would be advantageous for this post.

You will be passionate about, and an advocate for, libraries in their traditional and digital roles; inspiring and enabling learning and research of all kinds, at all levels. You will contribute to the library community across Wales – helping WHELF libraries to innovate to deliver services that meet the needs of users, today and over the coming years. Experience of event coordination, public relations, project management, and library and learning technologies will be beneficial for this post.

You will be able to provide professional support and guidance for WHELF’s growing programme of developments, and undertake an important advocacy role with the Welsh Government, MALD, and other partners such as SCONUL, JISC, SCURL, NoWAL, CILIP and SCL.

The post could potentially be hosted at any of the WHELF member organisations, with their agreement. This will be discussed during the appointment process. The ability to travel, occasionally with overnight stays, for meetings and events is an expected part of this role.
