The University of Birmingham is one of the most ambitious institutions in the UK and we are determined to be placed in the global top 50, with investment and strategic plans in place to enable us to achieve our objectives.

We are looking for two exceptional individuals to join our Strategic Projects Development Team within Research Support Services (RSS) to develop major research proposals across the academic community. The Industrial Strategy Challenge Fund (ISCF) is creating new opportunities for UK HEIs and industry and the post-holders will work in partnership with a number of external funding agencies in the UK and overseas.

There are two Strategic Projects Development Partner posts available; one covering Life Sciences (the Colleges of Medical and Dental Sciences and Life and Environmental Sciences) and the other Engineering and Physical Sciences (EPS). Each post will report into their respective Head of Strategic Projects and Partnerships (HoSPP).

The Strategic Projects Development Partners will work closely with the HoSPP, the Heads of College and College Directors of Research, in developing and shaping strategies for major research investment priorities aligned to delivery of the University’s Strategy. The post-holders will support the HoSPP to proactively generate, identify and pursue major funding opportunities in these priority areas for further development into fully-developed major proposals for funding.

The Strategic Projects Development Partners will be proactively responsible for the development of major high value strategic research projects and activities. The role will provide expert, strategic support to the University’s Executive Board and Senior Management teams in the relevant Colleges and leadership to academic and Professional Services teams in developing proposals and business cases for securing major investments for research and innovation.

Many of these strategic research projects will be multi-disciplinary, cross-College and multi-partner in nature, including industry partners. The post-holder will be expected to support strategic relationships with a number of key funding and stakeholder bodies and partner organisations nationally and internationally.

For informal discussions about the roles, please contact: Dr David Boardman (Engineering and Physical Sciences), or Eliot Marston (Life Sciences)
