Experienced project manager required for a busy and varied role in operations/facilities area providing coordination and ultimate delivery of the Estates operational projects.

We are seeking to appoint a Project Manager – operations/facility services to assume responsibility for the coordination and ultimate delivery of Estates operational projects and activities/events within defined cost, time and quality parameters.

The role will involve managing a diverse range of projects, including new builds, refurbishments and ongoing replacements. Example projects could include specification and procurement of furniture for student residences, new office builds and space planning for existing departments through to common rooms/break-out room refurbishment for students and staff, classroom and lecture theatre upgrades, and assisting with staff office relocations and new office set-ups. The successful applicant will be involved with advising on colour schemes, room capacities, materials and equipment, and procuring furniture or equipment, sometimes in response to bespoke requests.

In making this appointment the Estates department is seeking an experienced project manager who, among other qualities, can demonstrate:

  • Proven experience of managing of project delivery of construction, building or facility management.
  • Possess a good all-round knowledge of the facilities management or building management processes probably underpinned with expertise in a discipline specialism.
  • A working competency in:
    • Disability and accessibility legislation.
    • Health & safety.
    • Project management principles.
  • A working knowledge of:
    • AutoCAD (a qualification is desirable).
    • IT based project planning and reporting systems (MS Office suite including Excel and MS Project).
    • A history of prioritising competing demands to ensure projects are delivered on time, to plan and within agreed budgets.
    • Excellent interpersonal, communication and negotiation skills with the ability to explain technical information to multiple stakeholders, and to form strong working relationships with colleagues across the University.

In this busy and varied role you will be involved in interesting and challenging projects, from day to day revenue requirements up to major capital projects with a value up to approximately £2 million in both preconstruction and construction phases. You will play a key role in ensuring these projects, are completed efficiently and result in quality of work and value for money for the University.
