To support our work we are recruiting to the following role within the university’s Centre for History, located in Dornoch.

The Centre for History, founded in 2005, is part of the Humanities and Gaelic Subject Network, Faculty of Arts, Humanities and Business, University of the Highlands and Islands (UHI). The Centre has a strong team of research-active scholars who have developed an innovative range of undergraduate and postgraduate programmes.

As a full-time Lecturer at the Centre, you will work from the Centre’s base in Dornoch in the north Highlands. You will design, deliver, monitor, administer and evaluate academic programmes and contribute to the research environment, the development and efficient operation of the Centre. You should have previous experience of university-level teaching and be a research active historian in the field of early modern history (1500-1800). Applications would be encouraged, in particular, from those with a focus on environmental history and/or landscape history relating to that period.                                       

Candidate Requirements

The minimum requirements for selection are as follows:

  • PhD in History or a strongly-related subject
  • A good knowledge of the field and experience in teaching (particularly module leadership and module development) and research
