Newcastle University IT Service (NUIT) is looking to recruit a Computing Science / related undergraduate student for a 13 month work placement within the University based within the Local IT Support Team in the school of Engineering, beginning mid July 2018.

We can offer excellent experience in a wide variety of work covering first-line triage & desktop support; deployment and configuration of Windows onto users’ PCs; setup, testing and deployment of a new build for Windows 10 in our undergraduate and postgraduate computer rooms.

  • Work with School Computing Officers on a wide range of IT activities.
  • Respond to requests for help from staff & students.
  • Perform desktop support duties, this encompasses a wide range of IT related issues.
  • Operate an “IT Clinic”, being the main customer-facing resource for a walk-up facility where staff and students request advice on IT issues.

You will begin working in the NUIT SAgE Faculty IT team providing local IT support within the School of Engineering and work on the following planned projects:

  • Involvement in a PC refresh project: Identify any PC over 5 years old from a pool of 500+ and then plan, arrange and facilitate upgrade /replacement.
  • Work on a unique and substantial IT project throughout the year.

The role will suit a highly flexible, self-starting IT professional who is a good generalist and excellent problem solver, who has strong IT skills and who is comfortable in a customer facing role working with a wide range of University staff and students. The post is full time, based on a 37 hour week.
