Assistant Professor or Associate Professor in Applied Cultural Analysis

The School of Communication and Culture invites applications for an assistant professorship or an associate professorship in applied cultural analysis.

The assistant professorship is a full-time, three-year training position; and subject to appropriate funding, there will be an opportunity to apply for a subsequent associate professorship. The associate professorship is a permanent position.

The successful applicant will be expected to begin on 1 August 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The job is based at the School of Communication and Culture in Aarhus.

Applicants should indicate clearly whether they are applying for the assistant professorship or the associate professorship.

The position

The position includes tasks in all of Aarhus University’s core activities in the areas of research, teaching, talent development, and knowledge exchange.


The position involves theoretical and empirical research on cultural politics, policies, management, and leadership in collaboration with cultural institutions, associations, and public authorities. The successful applicant should be able to identify and develop research projects in collaboration with partners outside the university, both independently and in response to requests or calls from institutions, public authorities, or funding agencies.


The position will include teaching and developing courses at BA and MA level in subjects such as cultural politics, cultural policy-making, institutional analysis, qualitative and/or quantitative methodology, and internships/field studies. Experience of teaching and supervision at both BA and MA level is required when applying for the associate professorship. If an assistant professor is appointed, the person concerned must be prepared to attend Aarhus University’s special teacher-training course for assistant professors.
