Assistant Professor/Associate Professor in Aerospace Engineering

The Faculty of Engineering at The University of Nottingham launched new undergraduate Aerospace Engineering courses (MEng and BEng) in September 2016 and we are looking for an expert in aerospace engineering to develop and teach the Aerospace Engineers of the future. The successful candidate will join an institution that has an extremely strong research track record in the aerospace area with the Institute for Aerospace Technology (IAT) encompassing a multidisciplinary team in the UK and at our campuses in Malaysia and China. 

The IAT supports the University's broad research base and international leadership in a number of thematic areas within aerospace technology to facilitate increased research and knowledge transfer activity.The Institute has over 50 academic researchers working in internationally recognised research groups, often in partnership with leading aerospace companies, including Rolls-Royce; GE; Airbus; Boeing; BAE Systems; Bombardier; GKN and Goodrich.

This exciting new teaching development complements our research capability and adds to the Faculty’s existing portfolio of successful and well-respected courses, creating a rare opportunity for academics to design and tailor a coherent, high quality course to meet today’s aerospace challenges. 

We are keen to enhance our teaching capability in the area of aircraft design and so applications are particularly welcome from individuals with teaching/research/industrial experience within the aerospace sector in the area of Aircraft design/Aircraft systems design.

The Faculty is committed to creating opportunities for people from groups traditionally under-represented in the Faculty of Engineering.

We are looking for someone who can:

  • Lead and support the development of content for the aerospace engineering courses.
  • To examine the assessments for degrees and diplomas of the university. 
  • Supervise postgraduate research students.*
  • Lead original research.*

*Experience is not required for appointment in a Teaching and Learning role. 

They must be able to demonstrate that they can:

  • Teach to a high standard, which includes:
    • Complying with the University of Nottingham teaching quality assurance standards and procedures.
    • Supervising practical work, including projects, field trips or placements.
    • Coach and support tutorial groups, developing student knowledge and learning skills
    • Being responsible for the pastoral care of students within a specified area, dealing as necessary with sensitive issues.
  • To provide curriculum leadership within own area of expertise – especially to collaborate with colleagues in aerospace engineering to design course modules and/or programmes. 

It is expected that the post will result in an appointment to a teaching and research role, but exceptional candidates with extensive industrial experience, lacking a research track record, may be appointed to a teaching and learning role.Exceptionally well qualified candidates may also be considered for appointment as Associate Professor.

The salary:

Assistant Professor £35,550 - £47,722 per annum.

Associate Professor £49,722 - £60,410 per annum.
