Head of Interdisciplinary Science & Medical Technology

Medical Research Council – Head Office

You will be heading a newly created theme, working alongside the MRC's funding boards. You will have responsibility for managing and developing a research portfolio spanning interdisciplinary discovery science - connecting life, physical and digital sciences in biomedical research - and its application for emerging medical technologies in support of the development of advanced therapeutics and new diagnostics.

You will also lead MRC's strategic planning and involvement in key research infrastructural projects, often in partnership with other stakeholders, ensuring there is a clear, well communicated and realistic plan for developing MRC’s interdisciplinary and medical technologies / advanced therapeutics research portfolio; and to lead its implementation.

You will need:

  • A PhD relevant to the work of MRC
  • To be strategical minded, with the ability to relate long-term strategy into short-term actions
  • Proven negotiation and influencing skills whilst working in a politically sensitive environment
  • To show proven experience at representing an organisation at a senior level
  • An ability to motivate and provide leadership to a team, including management of departmental performance.
