Departmental Lecturership in Development Economics

The Oxford Department of International Development seeks applications for a full-time, fixed-term Departmental Lectureship in Development Economics. The post holder will be responsible to the Head of Department, Professor Christopher Adam, and will contribute to and coordinate the teaching of Quantitative Methods (QM) on the MSc Economics for Development course, this will involve giving lectures, classes, small group supervision and supporting students' dissertation research. The post holder will also contribute to the administrative work of the department, participate in the admissions process, and engage in research on themes related to development economics. The post is tenable for three years from 1 September 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.

Applicants should have:

  • A doctorate in economics with a focus on development issues and a strong quantitative component, or evidence that a doctorate is imminently expected;
  • A proven ability and experience necessary to teach quantitative methods to high-achieving and challenging graduate students, and to carry out student assessment, examination and course design;
  • Sufficient depth and breadth of knowledge of development economics to develop course materials and research proposals;
  • An active research record in the field of development economics;
  • An academic publication record commensurate with stage of career;
  • The ability to present research findings effectively to fellow professionals or other informed members of the public;
  • The ability to contribute effectively to the administrative work of the department and the ability to innovate and work effectively with colleagues as part of an interdisciplinary team.
