Named Veterinary Surgeon

Fixed term for 9 months

You will work as part of a small team that fulfils the roles of Named veterinary Surgeon, Named Training and Competency Officer, Home Office Liaison Contact and Named Information Officer, to ensure that the The Roslin Institute, University of Edinburgh is fully compliant with the requirements laid down by the Animal (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986 and actively engaging with the 3Rs. VRS provides a comprehensive veterinary service for a range of laboratory animals across multiple sites and scientific disciplines. The Institute facilities house rodent, avian, aquatic and agricultural species. In addition to providing a clinical service you will be involved in all aspects of work relating to the use of animals in academic research. This includes advising scientists on best practice in relation to the 3Rs at all stages of their work as well as the training of Personal Licence Holders and monitoring of animal facilities. You will be involved in the preparation and review of Project Licence applications and be part of the Animal Welfare and Ethical Review Body.

You may have opportunities to engage with collaborative research. You should be a strong team player with excellent communication skills and a keen interest in animal welfare.

Applicants should be a member of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons with experience in the field of laboratory animal medicine and familiar with the UK legislation in this area. However, applicants with a different but relevant background will be considered.

The position is being advertised as full time, however part-time would be considered for the right candidate.
