Experimental Officer in Mineral Scaling

Would you like to join a vibrant research team in oilfield scaling research in the Institute of Functional Surfaces (iFS)? Are you interested in using your technical expertise and specialist knowledge to support experimental scaling? Could you deliver undergraduate and postgraduate level teaching on diffraction and other analytical techniques?

You will support several projects related to mineral scaling/fouling, sponsored by a number of industrial sponsors and funding from EU. The projects are assessing the tendency for mineral scale formation on engineering surfaces, assessing kinetics of formation and developing surface engineering systems to prevent scaling. The group collaborates extensively with researchers in Petroleum Engineering in Heriot Watt University.

With a PhD (or close to completion) in mineral scaling, you will have a strong background in Scanning Electron Microscopy (SEM) and other analysis techniques as well as experimental aspects of scaling studies. Additionally, you will have a proven track record of publication of mineral scaling papers. You will be well organised, with a high level of communication skills and interpersonal skills. You should have demonstrated an interest in and a capacity to contribute to undergraduate and postgraduate teaching, which will include experience of teaching at both levels. You will also have the proven ability to motivate and supervise students and team members, helping them to achieve their full potential.
