Cambridge Cancer Centre Blood Processing Chief Laboratory Technician

Applications are invited for a full-time Chief Laboratory Technician who will be based in the Blood processing lab (BPL) a facility primarily focused on processing cancer patient blood samples for isolation of plasma, circulating tumour cells and lymphocytes. BPL works in close collaboration with the Cancer molecular diagnostics laboratory (CMDL) aimed to translate cutting edge methods for advanced diagnosis and clinical management of cancer at the Cancer Research UK Cambridge Centre.

Following the successful major centre funding award from Cancer Research UK the new integrative cancer medicine theme will bring together knowledge, expertise and emerging technologies to establish a personalised cancer medicine strategy that diagnoses cancer early and individually stratifies, treats and monitors all patients (http://www.cambridgecancercentre.org.uk/).

We are seeking a Chief Laboratory Technician to join our research team. The role requires providing laboratory management at the Cambridge Cancer Centre Blood Processing Laboratory (CCC-BPL), currently located at the Cambridge Breast Cancer Research Unit (CBCRU). The Chief Laboratory Technician will be expected to manage the CCC-BPL as a facility primarily focussed on processing cancer patient blood samples for isolation of plasma, circulating tumour cells and lymphocytes. The role will also provide leadership for the expansion of the laboratory as a central plasma and cancer cell/blood cell processing facility, to further enhance the service offered for research. Some flexibility in working hours may be required. 

The CCC-BPL team is currently formed of 2 Laboratory Assistants (1.5 FTE) that will be managed by the post holder, who will also be expected to actively participate in recruitment processes for new positions.
