Research and Knowledge Exchange (RKE) is a central professional service department, which works to support the University’s ambitious goals for growth. The team is responsible for the central management and delivery of RKE strategy through the provision of comprehensive support to academic departments in the development of; research income and wider research environment, impact & public engagement activities, and business partnerships & collaborations. The team also supports the University’s growing provision for SMEs and widening regional activities across a range of sectors.

In the competitive UK landscape for research and the changing expectations of research funders, RKE is leading the operational change management needed to ensure that Manchester Met continues to remain competitive and can successfully deliver on its research and knowledge exchange ambitions. To achieve this, staff work closely with academic colleagues and support productive partnerships with key regional, national and international research and innovation funders.

The role of Research Development Officer has been created to support our ambitious targets for increasing the University’s research activity and our emerging University Centres for Research and Knowledge Exchange.

The post holder will work as part of the Research Development Team to deliver a high quality pre-award support service to academic and professional support service colleagues. They will be involved in a wide range of development activity including identification and communication of funding opportunities; development of research proposals (costing, pricing and submission); support for strategic bids and administration of internal funding streams. The post will focus on providing support to researchers in our faculties of Arts & Humanities, Business & Law, and Education.

This opportunity would suit a pro-active and highly organised candidate with proven experience of providing high quality support in a fast-moving office. You will have experience of working within a Higher Education setting and an understanding of a number of national and international research funders, their priorities and systems. You will also have excellent communication skills and be able to demonstrate how you have worked with researchers and other professional service colleagues to develop successful research funding applications.
