Lancaster University has a substantial and longstanding presence in China, which is strategically important to the University and also an area of our activities that we are going to further develop. We are therefore seeking to appoint two talented individuals to lead our substantial engagements with China. 

The role is focused on the Confucius Institute (CI) at Lancaster, in order to establish Lancaster as a major in-country partner for universities in China. The CI is a key part of this vision, building educational foundations, through the study and research of Chinese language and culture, which are crucial if the university and the UK are to better engage with China. The vision for our CI is to achieve model CI status.Lancaster University Confucius Institute is already very successful and, in recognition of this success, the University has recently received substantial financial support from Hanban in Beijing to create a bespoke facility for the Confucius Institute, which will allow the University to expand its activities, as well as contributing to our China development agenda.

We are seeking to recruit to two posts to support these initiatives. For this Deputy Director we are looking for an academic who can teach Chinese language and culture, together with experience in academic administration, including the designing, marketing and operating of China-related programmes. 

For this post you must have good knowledge of Chinese culture and history, ability to speak fluently in Mandarin Chinese
