£39,993 - £74,259 (Lecturer salary from £39,993 - £47,722 a year with potential progression (to £53,690 a year)). (Senior Lecturer/Reader salary from £49,148 - £56,950 a year with potential progression (to £74,259 a year)).

The School of Sport, Exercise and Rehabilitation Sciences, at the University of Birmingham, is seeking to appoint a faculty member at Lecturer/Senior Lecturer level in the area of sport pedagogy/andragogy, within the areas of health and wellbeing. The appointment will be made to enhance linkages and build research capacity across our thematic areas of Exercise and Health, Sport Participation to Performance, and Rehabilitation and Motor Control. Individuals with expertise working with children and/or adults applied to sport, community and physical education environments, knowledge of educational theories across a range of contexts, experience with digital technologies or digital media, the ability to operate within applied settings and collaborate with stakeholders, professionals and practitioners, and advanced qualitative skills with the capacity to apply mixed method research designs are encouraged to apply.

The appointed candidate will be expected to have ambition to participate in one of the UK’s strongest research Schools, maintaining our strengths as a leading research-led teaching department, capturing external research funding, and publishing work of the highest academic quality and impact. The appointee will be expected to show the ability to lead and shape the strategic direction of the School, to maintain its reputation at a national and international level, and to contribute to outstanding postgraduate supervision and undergraduate teaching.

The appointee will have a clear research vision within the area of Sport for Health and Wellbeing, a growing international reputation in the field, and significant track record of internationally leading research (evidenced for example by publication in high impact journals). The appointee will also have a reasonable track record in attracting external research funding consistent with the level of Lecturer or Senior Lecturer, and emerging leadership and management skills. We expect the appointee to be an inspiring teacher, who is able to communicate with researchers, undergraduates and the general public.

The applicant will possess a PhD in the fields of Sport, Health, Exercise or Education, or a related subject area. The applicant will also be able to demonstrate excellent project management and organizational skills, the ability to work to deadlines and previous experience in working with teams of people from academic and non-academic backgrounds.
