Research Administrator

Full Time, fixed term for 2 years

Applications are invited for a position of research administrator in the School of Chemical Engineering at the University of Birmingham. This position is offered as a full-time on a fixed term basis for 2 years in the first instance.

This a new position with the aim is to support researchers with various activities.  The postholder will play an important role preparing the School for the next Research Exercise by supporting the Head of School, Head of Research and REF Lead with any necessary documentation for submission and will ensure that all research papers are updated in Pure or any other database(s). She/he will support the REF Lead in the School to develop a database of research impact areas with specific focus on impact case studies for REF 2021.  The postholder will also support the implementation of the College Research Strategy by liaising with the College Research Facilitators and School Directors of Research. 

Providing support to academics with managing grants and project at all stages, from proposal to delivery, the postholder will liaise with a number of stakeholders across the University to ensure key milestones are met. The postholder will also monitor the UK and Research Councils for new calls and new regulations on grants and will disseminate the information on research calls and funding regulations to academics.


  • Honours degree or equivalent
  • Proven knowledge and understanding of the Higher Education environment
  • Experience of managing multiple, complex projects
  • Strong networking and relationship building skills
  • Good communication skills
  • Excellent analytical skills
  • Highly numerate with excellent attention to detail
  • Confident user of IT and various software packages and willingness to train on specialized software

Starting salary is normally in the range £26,495 to £28,936 (Grade 6)
