University of West London - Finance

The University of West London is a leading modern university specialising in the education and development of exceptional creative, business and service professional.

The Payroll and Pensions team is an integral part of the Finance Department and is responsible for the payment of approx. 2000 monthly paid employees. The payroll is under one PAYE reference number, and is grouped into 3 payrolls: pensioners, student union and the main UWL payroll.

The Payroll Manager will be responsible for:

  • ensuring that each stage of the payroll process complies with due processes and procedures
  • paying all staff correctly, on a monthly basis
  • ensuring that correct payments are made, and appropriate information is provided, to the University’s pension schemes, HMRC and other statutory bodies
  • providing advice and expertise in relation to the impact of external changes on UWL’s occupational pension schemes
  • assist in the implementation of design changes in defined benefit schemes

The University currently uses the Northgate Arinso ‘Resourcelink’ integrated Personnel/Payroll software suite. The system therefore has input from both the Human Resources Department and the Payroll and Pensions team within the Finance Department. The Payroll and Pensions team is committed to continuous improvement of both systems and service to ensure that these meet the needs, aims and aspirations of the University.

These enhancements are usually jointly planned; tested and implemented by staff from both the Payroll and Pensions team and the Human Resource Department. 

The Payroll Manager must be CIPP qualified and have a membership of CIPP. Have a proven track record in managing an effective payroll office.

The successful candidate will have a sound knowledge of Resource link system software and working knowledge of final salary and defined contribution pension schemes.
