This is an exciting opportunity for a Research Fellow in Human-Computer Interaction on dminr (, a research project funded by the Google Digital News Initiative (DNI). dminr is a collaboration between the Centre for HCI Design (HCID) and the Digital Information Initiative (DII) research group in the Department of Journalism at City, University of London. dminr will involve the research, design and evaluation of a Web-based data mining tool to support journalists making new and useful connections between public data sources. This is a permanent post with fixed funding until December 2019.

The focus will be on designing software to support journalists’ verification of information through the initial collection of user interests (an initial search on aggregated sources) and building profiles of journalist interests which will help automate the process of verification through crawling of sources based on the user profile.

Person Specification
The successful candidate will have a PhD in Information Retrieval or a related subject such as Artificial Intelligence, Machine Learning, Data Mining or Text Analytics, experience in publishing their research in high quality academic conferences and/or journals and experience in the design and production of software applications (ideally Web-based). Applicants currently writing up their PhD (who expect to submit by end of February 2018) are eligible to apply.
