We are looking for a Science Officer: Mental Health Development Phase to develop a science and research strategy for the development phase of our Mental Health priority area.

You will help shape and develop a science and research strategy for the development phase of our Mental Health priority area. You will be working closely with the rest of the Mental Health development team to create a strong business case for why Wellcome should make this area a priority, and will establish what is required to make transformations in this field.

You will:

  • Explore and analyse strategic opportunities in mental health science and research to make a robust case for the Mental Health priority area being approved and implemented. You’ll do this by working closely with the Mental Health development team as well as other internal and external stakeholders.
  • Identify stakeholders among key research and funding organisations in the mental health sector – including funders, partner organisations, industry and members of the scientific community – and detect common interests and highlight opportunities for new partnerships.
  • Analyse science, research and funding developments related to mental health so that our work remains relevant, timely and at the cutting edge.

Experience & Skills

About you

To succeed in this role, you will need:

  • Demonstrable interest in mental health science, research and innovation issues
  • Experience of researching and helping formulate recommendations on strategic priority issues within a medium- to large-sized organisation
  • An undergraduate degree in a relevant discipline is desirable
