Postdoctoral Fellow

European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL)

Contract Duration: 3 years.

Job Description

The Heppenstall and Hackett Groups are looking for a talented postdoctoral researcher to lead an interdisciplinary project in mammalian models. The project builds on novel observations and will develop new technologies to investigate the potential for directed epigenetic control of gene expression in vivo, and reversible phenotype modulation.

Research in the groups is focussed on understanding the epigenetic basis of genome regulation (www.embl.it/research/unit/hackett) and how sensory neurons integrate external stimuli (www.embl.it/research/unit/heppenstall).

The European Molecular Biology Laboratory (EMBL) is one of the highest ranked scientific research organisations in the world, and has sites in Heidelberg (Germany), Rome (Italy), Grenoble (France), Hamburg (Germany), and EMBL-EBI Hinxton (UK).

EMBL Rome is a highly interactive and dynamic international environment, focused on epigenetics and neurobiology. Research is supported by world-class core facilities, including advanced microscopy, FACS, viral production, genome engineering, histology, and bioinformatics.

Qualifications and Experience
You hold a PhD and have a proven track record in protein biochemistry and/or epigenetics, combined with a strong desire to work on cutting-edge research. Candidates should also hold a first-author publication.

The ideal candidate has strong initiative, an interest in technology development as part of fundamental research, and is keen to work in a collaborative international environment. Experience in mouse biology is beneficial.

Benefits
EMBL is an inclusive, equal opportunity employer offering an attractive salary and benefits appropriate to a premier international research organisation.

We have an informal culture and extensive professional development opportunities. The environment is supportive, collegial, and family-friendly to foster development of ambitious research.

Application Instructions
To apply please submit a covering letter clearly stating your motivation and future research goals, and a CV with at least two referees, through our online system.
