Research Metadata Specialist

University of Sheffield - The University Library

The University is proud of its University Library, which has a strong reputation for delivering an outstanding student learning experience, combined with an innovative approach to service delivery, and the rich resources of one of the UK’s leading research libraries.

Our Library staff play a major role in delivering a world-class study environment for University students, staff, and the general public. We aim to deliver a consistently high standard of services across our 5 Library sites: the Western Bank Library, the Diamond, the Information Commons and the two sites of the Health Sciences Library.

Producing timely and accurate metadata for research outputs is an essential part of the Library's contribution to realising the research priorities of the University. Reporting to the Metadata Manager, and working closely with colleagues in the Research Services Unit, you will check, correct and upgrade descriptive metadata for the outputs of the University’s research communities. You will work with the Research Services Unit to enable researchers to understand and benefit from the
opportunities presented by the evolving open access scholarly publishing environment whilst complying with funder requirements for open research. You will also contribute to the creation and maintenance of high quality metadata to ensure the discoverability of Library resources.

The Digital Services and Systems team consists of three sections, which collectively enable discovery of and access to resources, and support the Library’s business processes. Digital Services and Systems is responsible for the provision of discovery services that enable students and researchers to explore the world of knowledge and provide access to the Library’s collections and those of our broader networks. The team leads the evaluation, development and implementation of
systems and services to facilitate discovery and underpin the Library’s business processes.
