Assistant to Head of Biological Research Facility (BRF)

We are seeking to recruit a suitably experienced assistant to the Head of BRF, who will be responsible for the day to day management of a small team of technicians, husbandry and records management of animals held within the BRF.

The role will have a significant element of administrative (office based) duties, but also involve working with animals by providing ‘hands on’ training, helping with animal husbandry as required, and providing technical support to researchers.

With guidance and support from the Head of BRF, the person appointed will be required to:

Provide assistance and training (as required) to all persons working within the facility; monitor closely all aspects of projects involving animals undertaken within the BRF; help ensure full compliance with all regulatory requirements of the Animals (Scientific Procedures) Act 1986, Health & Safety legislation, and all other regulatory requirements associated with managing a multi-discipline animal research facility.

The successful candidate will, amongst other attributes, have:

  • Excellent people management skills and the ability to manage and organise work rotas
  • Excellent communication skills, both written and verbal.
  • Proven ability in a supervisory role.
  • Strong organisational and time management skills.
  • Some experience in a supervisory role.

The post is subject successful completion of pre-employment and security clearances.

The salary for the post will be within the range of SGUL 6: £32,548 to £38,833, plus £3,027 London Allowance per annum.
