Queen Mary University of London is one of the UK's leading research-focused higher education institutions, a member of the elite Russell Group of UK universities. The School of Engineering and Materials Science are seeking to develop and strengthen their internationally regarded engineering research activity as part of the School’s on-going investment in research excellence.

We currently seek applicants with research interests that are complementary to our existing strengths in solid mechanics. Priority will be given to applicants who have a strong computational background supported with a sound appreciation of application in their research. High priority will be given to candidates whose experience provides opportunities in aerospace applications or structural optimisation.

The successful applicant will have a proven track record in journal publications. A commitment to high quality education is also essential to support our thriving undergraduate and postgraduate taught programmes.

The successful candidate will be based in the Division of Engineering Science. The School has access to high performance computing as well as state-of-the-art experimental facilities incorporated within laboratories for Robotics Engineering, Aeronautical Engineering, Thermofluids, and Electrohydrodynamics. Currently the School is further expanding into Chemical Engineering.

Your application must include a completed application form and CV plus additional supporting documentation as follows:

  • Research grant income carefully detailed.
  • Full refereed journal papers listed clearly.
  • Indicate the 4 papers you believe are the most significant to date.
  • Statement of aspirations on both research and student education (1-page max each).

The post is a full time, permanent post with salary range £40,865 to £50,881. A generous academic support package will be available. Benefits include 30 days’ annual leave, interest-free season ticket and defined benefit pension scheme.

Additional Information

Candidates must be able to demonstrate their eligibility to work in the UK in accordance with the Immigration, Asylum and Nationality Act 2006. Where required this may include entry clearance or continued leave to remain under the Points Based Immigration Scheme.
