PhD Studentship: Corporate Social Responsibility and Governance

University of Southampton - Centre for Research on People and Organisational Change

Southampton Business School has studentships available for postgraduate research students admitted full-time onto its PhD programme and commencing their studies in October 2018.

The awards are available in the subject area of “Corporate social responsibility and governance”. There is now greater emphasis on the challenges of bringing ethics and corporate social responsibility concerns into the centre stage of business firms’ strategies for achieving competitive advantage. Business school teaching may also need to incorporate these evolving strands in their curricula and teaching methods. Furthermore, incentives can be used for many purposes in organisations, for example, to motivate employees and to promote certain business practices / behaviours. There are many open questions like the link between executive compensation and corporate social responsibility, behavioural approaches to incentive design and the impact of specific incentives types on performance, which can all form part of interesting research projects.

Research in this subject area is currently undertaken by members of the Department of Human Resources Management and Organisational Behaviour and the related Centre for Research on People and Organisational Change.
