Health Economics Research Unit (HERU)

The Health Economics Research Unit (HERU) is seeking to appoint, a Research Assistant/Fellow in Health Economics for a period of 24 months. The successful applicant will contribute to our Assessment of Technology theme and Health Behaviour theme. HERU is one of Europe’s leading centres for health economics and is located within the Institute of Applied Health Sciences in the School of Medicine, Medical Sciences and Nutrition, at the University of Aberdeen.

This post offers the opportunity to contribute to applied economic evaluations of health technologies and health behaviour interventions for the purpose of informing NHS policy and practice recommendations, and to pursue methodological developments in this area of research.

The post will suit a candidate whose key interests include decision modelling and/or statistical analysis methods aligned to the conduct of economic evaluation. The successful candidate will join multidisciplinary teams that include researchers from HERU and across the Institute of Applied Health Sciences. Key activities will include the conduct of economic evaluations based on cost and effect data collected alongside randomised controlled trials or cohort studies, and cost-effectiveness modelling applied to health technologies and behavioural interventions.

Individuals with an MSc in health economics, statistics, operations research, or closely related quantitative discipline are encouraged to apply. Appointees at Research Fellow level will also be expected to have a PhD in health economics/statistics/operations research or a related discipline with a substantial component of training in quantitative methods, or an MSc plus extensive research experience to demonstrate the ability to work at this level.

Salary will be at the appropriate point on the Grade 5 scale (£27,285 - £30,688 per annum) for Research Assistant or Grade 6 scale (£32,548- £38,833 per annum) for Research Fellow, with placement according to qualifications and experience.
