The University is now looking to appoint to the post of the Head of Department Musculoskeletal Biology II, Institute of Ageing and chronic Disease. 

Reporting to the Head of Institute, who in turn reports to the Executive PVC. As a member of the Institute’s Senior Management Team, you will provide direction and leadership for the Department, working closely with Academic Leaders and other Heads of Departments and in support of the University’s Strategic Plan. 

You will receive dedicated administrative support from a member of the Management Services Team and will interact closely with the Institute’s Head of Operations who is also a member of the Senior Management Team.

You will assume a senior academic role in the Institute, and will be expected to become an ambassador for the Institute and establish strong research and teaching contributions alongside the headship responsibilities. This post can be appointed on a clinical or a non-clinical career pathway.

You will play a vital role in the delivery of the strategic agenda for the Faculty and University as a whole. S/he will work in partnership with the Institute Head and, the professional services Head of Operations, to provide leadership and management at a business delivery level within the Institute, in support of the University’s strategic plan (Strategy 2026) and wider ambitions. In order to deliver this, the Head of Department will take responsibility for strategic change and development within the department. The University is seeking an individual with a demonstrated capability for leadership, strategic vision, and ability to drive a pedagogy-focused agenda at the interface of psychology and life sciences education.

For clinical applicants, the job plan will be agreed depending on clinical specialty at the time of appointment, an indicative job plan is available for the Royal Liverpool and Broadgreen Hospital Trust. If the post holder chose to work within another organisation, all aspects of job description for that organisation can be provided. Please note that this is a leadership post and it is anticipated that the clinical contribution per week will be low. The job plan will be formally agreed at the time of appointment. Indicative arrangements are given below in the job description.

Salary will be commensurate with the appointee’s accomplishments, potential, and the academic rank of the appointment.
