Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust - Quality & Safety Research

BAND 6

37.5 HOURS PER WEEK

FIXED TERM 12 MONTHS (POSSIBLE FURTHER EXTENSION)

The NIHR Yorkshire and Humber Patient Safety Translational Research Centre is a new £3 million national centre for patient safety research. We are excited to advertise for three Research Fellows to work within the Centre; a collaboration between Bradford Teaching Hospitals NHS Foundation Trust and the Universities of Leeds and Bradford. The new Centre will:

  • Draw on the expertise of well-established networks of researchers, patients/carers, clinicians and industry to develop ideas that address patient safety problems
  • Enable and encourage the generation of ideas from a broad range of academic disciplines
  • Test whether the interventions are acceptable and feasible in practice and whether they have the potential to save the NHS money
  • Attract funding to take good ideas forward for further evaluation and/or implementation in the NHS
  • Actively promote research findings through partnerships, national and international research groups, improvement and clinical networks, national policy makers and others

We will concentrate on four research themes that recognise:

  1. The central role of patients and their carers (Patient Involvement in Patient Safety, led by Jane O'Hara, University of Leeds)
  2. The importance of creating workplaces that people want to work in (Workforce engagement and wellbeing led by Rebecca Lawton, University of Leeds)
  3.  The safe use of medicines as a priority across healthcare settings (Safe use of medicines led by Alison Blenkinsopp, University of Bradford)
  4. The potential for digital technology to improve safety (Digital innovations for safety, led by John Wright, Bradford Teaching Hospital Foundation Trust)

We are seeking three Research Fellows with experience in health-related research and collecting qualitative and quantitative research to contribute to themes 1, 2 and 4 above.  The successful candidates will work on one of the themes, carrying out a programme of research along with a Senior Research Fellow, the theme lead and support from other research staff and a patient panel. The appointed Research Fellows will be motivated to engage staff and patients/carers in research that makes healthcare safer.

The successful candidates will join our team, which sits within a wider research network: the Yorkshire Quality and Safety Research group (YQSR group). We are a friendly, hard-working and enthusiastic team conducting high-quality, rigorous and applied research to develop and evaluate innovative solutions to patient safety problems. The group comprises researchers and leading academics from the Universities of Leeds, York and Bradford teamed with clinicians and managers from across Yorkshire and Humber. Over the past decade the YQSR group has established a national and international reputation for working collaboratively across institutions and disciplines to address key, clinically relevant questions in patient safety.

If you would like to know more about these roles or the work of the YQSR group, please contact:  Dr Beth Fylan (01274 38 3430). When applying please indicate which theme of work you would most like to be considered for.

We can offer staff gymnasiums on both hospital sites, subsidised restaurants, Excellent pension scheme including life assurance cover and childcare facilities.
