Postdoctoral Research Assistant – Political Economy of Forecast-based Financing

We are seeking a highly motivated social scientist with a solid understanding of national & international disaster risk reduction & humanitarian financing systems to join an international project team working to reduce natural hazard impacts on vulnerable communities.

The researcher will become part of the FATHUM project (Forecasts for AnTicipatory HUManitarian Action), which is funded by NERC and DfID as part of their Science for Humanitarian Emergencies & Resilience (SHEAR) programme. The multidisciplinary FATHUM team aim to carry out research that enables the successful implementation and scale-up of Forecast-based Financing (FbF) locally, nationally and internationally. Part of this project requires research to understand how FbF could be scaled up and embedded in national and international humanitarian financing systems.

You will have:

  • A PhD or equivalent in human geography, international development, development economics or other relevant discipline.
  • A solid understanding of national and international disaster risk reduction & humanitarian financing systems.
  • Experience of interviewing senior officials / senior management staff and fieldwork in a developing country.
  • Strong communication skills
