Postdoctoral Research Assistant - Axial-Lateral Pile Analysis for Chalk Project

We are seeking a full-time Postdoctoral Research Assistant, funded by EPSRC, to join the Geotechnical Engineering research group at the Department of Engineering Science (central Oxford). The post is fixed-term for 18 months, starting from 1 April 2018 or as soon as possible thereafter.

The successful applicant will work as part of the team on the Axial-Lateral Pile Analysis for Chalk project, which aims to develop reliable design procedures for piles driven in chalk. The successful applicant will be responsible for the supervision and analysis of field tests on reduced scale offshore wind foundations at an onshore chalk test site. The work will involve the processing of monitored data from instruments including state-of-the-art fibre optic strain sensors to assess the foundation soil reactions and application to future design methods.

You should hold (or be near to completion of) a relevant PhD/DPhil, along with appropriate experience. Researchers with experience of experimental testing campaigns, even outside of Geotechnical Engineering, are encouraged to apply. You will also need the ability to evaluate, interpret and report experimental data within a proposed framework to a high standard.
