Lancaster University seeks to make an ambitious and visionary senior appointment (Chair/Reader) in Environment Sensing to lead the new Centre of Excellence in Environmental Data Science together with a senior appointment, Chair/Reader in Environmental Data Analytics (Ref: A2167), and a recent appointment by the Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (CEH) in Land/Water Data Modelling. The Centre of Excellence in Environmental Data Science is a joint venture between the Lancaster University and the NERC Centre for Ecology & Hydrology (CEH). The post-holder would sit within the Data Science Institute.

We define ‘sensing’ broadly, incorporating the span of technologies from satellite Earth Observation through to in situ sensor networks, and a range of environmental applications from monitoring anthropogenically-produced change to quantifying fundamental environmental processes. We are particularly interested in applicants who operate at the interface of sensing and data science. Applicants with research interests related to environmental sensing of the hydrosphere, including water resource management, would be particularly encouraged to apply.

We are seeking a senior appointment with a strong research track record and with an ability to take on a strategic leadership role and aptitude for directing the development of the Centre of Excellence in Environmental Data Science and an ability to communicate across disciplinary boundaries and working collaboratively with partners in the institutions.

Informal questions regarding the posts should be directed one of the following:
