PhD Studentship: Car-sharing models: Finding the right incentive mechanism for sharing profits and costs

University of Southampton - The Centre for Inclusive and Sustainable Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CISEI) and The Department of Decision Analytics and Risk (DDAR)

Southampton Business School has studentships available for postgraduate research students admitted full-time onto its PhD programme and commencing their studies in October 2018.

The awards are available to pursue a PhD project on “Car-sharing models: Finding the right incentive mechanism for sharing profits and costs. While there are several car- and ride-sharing success stories (e.g. Uber, Lyft, BlaBlacar), there are many car sharing platforms that struggle. Among the reasons could be issues with business model, competition, and choices of technology. Critical to these is understanding of demand and supply mechanisms of car-sharing, including incentives for different types of sharing platform users. As part of this project, the successful candidate will work on developing a quantitative model for matching and optimising demand and supply in the car-sharing economy. One promising avenue to explore could be game theory modelling. Applications are invited from exceptional candidates having quantitative background.

Research in this subject area is currently undertaken by members of the Centre for Inclusive and Sustainable Entrepreneurship and Innovation (CISEI) and The Department of Decision Analytics and Risk (DDAR)
