Research Assistant/Associate in Cyber-Physical Systems and Asset Management

A position exists, for a Research Assistant/Associate in the Department of Engineering, to work on the Next Generation Converged Digital Infrastructure project funded by EPSRC and BT. The Research Assistant/Associate will work with the Distributed Information and Automation Laboratory (DIAL) at the Institute for Manufacturing. One of the key areas of focus for the project is the development of autonomic system in which software agents mirror or twin with physical nodes. The researcher will examine how to bring these capabilities together to improve organisational performance through improved service assurance and enhancing organisational capabilities. Specifically, research will be carried out to develop and apply techniques to enable autonomous decision-making for improving service performance through condition-monitoring, predictive maintenance and spares management. In addition, the researcher will be expected to contribute to other research projects and activities within DIAL.

The post holder will be located in Institute for Manufacturing, 17 Charles Babbage Road, Cambridge, Cambridgeshire, UK.

The researcher's expertise will include distributed decision-making and control algorithms, cyber-physical systems, prognosis, reliability engineering and asset management. Appreciation and knowledge of the challenges in telecommunication networks is desirable.

Applicants will be expected to have obtained or be close to obtaining a PhD in Engineering, Computer Science or relevant discipline.

Salary Ranges: Research Assistant: £25,728 - £30,688 Research Associate: £31,604 - £38,833 

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 24 months in the first instance.
