We welcome applications from experienced chefs who are interested in using their skills in an innovative way to help with medical research in obesity and diabetes.

We are seeking to recruit a Development Chef who will be responsible for providing food for research studies in line with specific research protocols. The chef will join a team of researchers working in the Wellcome Trust-MRC Institute of Metabolic Science (IMS) Translational Research Facility (TRF). This is a new, state-of-the art Unit dedicated to supporting the delivery of clinical research in obesity and diabetes and located on the Addenbrooke's Hospital campus.

The role holder will design meals to test new research questions and be responsible for the production of bespoke menus for patients and volunteers as part of a range of metabolic and eating behaviour research studies. The ability to bring in new techniques to modify the content and appearance of food for research is a key part of the role. The role-holder will be responsible for maintaining the health and safety standards of the TRF diet kitchen. Duties will include ordering food and other supplies and providing a budget for the diet kitchen, liaising closely with their line manager regarding purchasing.

This post requires a Catering qualification (NVQ level 2), and a minimum of Level 2 Food Safety in Catering (taught course). Level 3 Food Safety in Catering (taught course) is desirable. Strong practical experience of working as a development chef in a multi-functional kitchen is essential.

The position is funded by the Wellcome Trust and is a part time post for 18.25 hours per week (0.50wte).

Proposed start date: as soon as possible.

Fixed-term: The funds for this post are available for 12 months in the first instance.
