Staff member science communication and research impact

Job description

  • You formulate a communication strategy of the Institute in the field of research, together with the chair of the Research Commission.
  • You provide strategic and operational support for communication between IOB’s researchers and external stakeholders, by:
    • proactively advising on all aspects of research impact to individual academics;
    • supporting the setting up of effective and innovative initiatives of research dissemination to achieve change in policy and practice;
    • helping in disseminating research outputs to a variety of stakeholders through a range of methods and channels including publications, presentations, policy briefs, blogs, and other social media outlets;
    • copywriting and editing content for print and digital media;
    • assisting with the preparation of the impact sections of research grant proposals;
    • liaising with the UAntwerp press office to highlight and promote successful research outcomes and impacts.
  • You coordinate the content of IOB’s websites.
  • You develop and maintain systems for effective and consistent reporting of impact activity.
  • You stay up to date with the research impact agenda internationally, gathering intelligence related to impact, and sharing examples of good practice.

Profile and requirements

  • You hold at least a Master degree, preferably in Communication, with proven interest in development studies, or in Development Studies with proven experience in communication.
  • You have excellent writing skills and strong interpersonal and communication skills.
  • You are familiar with societal actors and policy processes in the field of Development.
  • You have relevant experience in science communication and an understanding of research impact within the Development sector.
  • You have excellent oral and written knowledge of English. Knowledge of French would be a strong advantage.
  • You are flexible, proactive, strong in planning and organizing, and you can work well independently.
  • You can work well with MS Office. Experience with InDesign is a plus.
  • You are communicative, customer-friendly, creative, quality-oriented, co-operative, and a person of integrity.

  • a full time gross monthly salary in cluster 7-9, ranging from €2,967.33 - €4,576.45, depending on academic qualifications and former professional experience;
