ESRC Postdoctoral Fellow

London School of Economics and Political Science - LSE Doctoral Training Partnership

This is a fixed term appointment for up to one year or up to two years part time

The call is open to applicants who have completed their PhD at a research organisation that is part of an ESRC Doctoral Training Partnership or Centre for Doctoral Training.

Fellowships are aimed at those in the immediately postdoctoral stage of their career, to provide the opportunity to consolidate their PhD through developing publications, networks, research and professional skills.

Applicants are required to submit a proposal detailing their aims and objectives to be achieved during the fellowship.  This might include: production of publications in order to help establish a track record; engaging with a range of different audiences to communicate research findings; building networks to develop impact opportunities and inform and support further development; collaboration with users through an internship or placement; further training to improve research and related skills; or developing funding proposals and carrying out further limited research based on their PhD.

Candidates should demonstrate the following:

  • A PhD completed at a research organisation that is part of an ESRC DTP or CDT.
  • A PhD awarded or thesis submitted and viva voce passed with minor corrections by 23 March 2018.
  • Not more than 12 months of active postdoctoral experience from the viva pass date to the 23 March 2018.
  • The ability to design and develop an innovative and feasible programme of research and activities which meets the aims of the ESRC and complements the host department.
  • The ability to communicate the goals and results or their research to academic and non-academic audiences both in writing and verbally.
  • A feasible plan to produce high quality planned outputs during the fellowship that are appropriate and attainable.

An ESRC Postdoctoral Fellowship is intended to be an entry route to an academic career and is deemed by the School to be a career development position.  At the submission deadline, the applicant must either have been awarded a PhD or have submitted their thesis and passed their viva voce with minor corrections, with the expectation that the PhD will be awarded by the fellowship start date  Applicants must have no more than 12 months of active doctoral experience prior to 23 March 2018.
