This role:

An opening has arisen for an experienced Systems Administrator: DBA to join the University of Manchester’s IT Services Infrastructure Team.

The initial assignment for this post will be to work within the Database team providing DBA support to various database systems, varying from large enterprise business systems (in this role mainly Campus Solutions), to small databases across various technologies and platforms including Oracle 11g/12c on Unix/Linux and Windows, also MYSQL and SQL Server.

There will also be an element of Supporting Oracle middle tier technologies, including Weblogic, Tuxedo and Apache etc.

The DBA role involves working with other DBAs and system administrators and possibly business users to understand their issues and requirements; to define and develop fixes and solutions. You will have experience supporting high availability systems and scalable architectures as well as experience in a large database operation environment.

This will primarily be a day-to-day support role; however occasional short-medium term assignments to ongoing projects may form part of this role.

You will have previous relevant work experience and either a degree/professional qualification or substantial experience in a similar role. Excellent interpersonal skills are also required with the ability to communicate effectively with colleagues across IT and with the supplier. You should also be able to deal with complex problems and provide creative solutions to them. Training to perform specific tasks will be provided as required.

As an equal opportunities employer, we welcome applications from all suitably qualified persons. As we are committed to the principles of the Race Equality Charter Mark and Athena SWAN, we would particularly welcome applications from women and the black and minority ethnic (BME) community, who are both currently under-represented at this grade. All appointments will be made on merit.
