The Veterinary Medicines Directorate (VMD) is an Executive Agency of the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs (Defra) and is responsible for ensuring the safety, quality and efficacy of veterinary medicines in the UK within the statutory framework of various EC Directives and Regulations, and the Veterinary Medicines Regulations.

We have a vacancy for a Scientific Officer based in Addlestone, Surrey.  The core work of this post is to provide scientific and administrative support to a busy team.

A formal (degree level) qualification in a relevant scientific discipline such as biological or chemical science is desirable. However, we will also consider you if you can demonstrate experience or interest in science and a willingness to develop your expertise in relation to the job description and competences.

Experience handling scientific data and a general understanding of the principles of microbiology, antimicrobial resistance, and veterinary medicines is also desirable.
