Research Associate in Pure Mathematics

University of Bristol - School of Mathematics

Applications are invited for postdoctoral research opportunities in Mathematics, tenable from 1 April 2018 (or a date to be agreed). This is funded by an ERC Advanced Grant “Exponential Sums, Translation Invariance, and Applications”, which aims to develop and study the efficient congruencing/decoupling methods in analytic number theory; it covers a wide range of topics including exponential sums, the Hardy-Littlewood (circle) method, quantitative arithmetic geometry, restriction theory, function fields, and additive combinatorics.

You should have (or expect to hold shortly) a PhD in Mathematics or equivalent, with a suitable background in analytic number theory, arithmetic or algebraic geometry, discrete harmonic analysis, additive combinatorics, or theoretical computer science, and a willingness to interface with the theory of exponential sums and the circle method.

This post will be offered on an open-ended basis with funding currently secured for two years.

The School of Mathematics is one of the leading centres for research and teaching in mathematical sciences in the UK, and offers a stimulating and friendly environment with first-rate facilities. The School of Mathematics is a supporter of the LMS Good Practice Scheme aiming at advancing women's careers in mathematics:

It is the applicant's responsibility to ensure their referees send a letter of reference by email to before the closing date of 23:59 on Wednesday 14 February 2018.  Applications received after this date may also be considered.
