University of Southampton - New Business Creation & Incubation

This role provides a unique opportunity to work at the heart of world-class entrepreneurial activity and deliver economic impact through the growth of innovative firms and creation of the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) funded Solent LEP Innovation Network.

Innovation is a key strategic priority in the Solent LEP. The Innovation Network (IN) will build upon the Solent LEP’s innovation strategy. It will bring together and co-ordinate delivery of the regions currently fragmented actions and initiatives to enhance the speed and volume of new innovative products/services developed by local Small and Medium Enterprises. 

The Innovation Network (IN) has two distinct delivery activities that will be predominately facilitated via a knowledge base consisting of the four higher education and seven further education establishments in the Solent LEP region as well as four of the national Catapult centres.

SME (Small and Medium Enterprises) networking and brokered engagement activity

The Innovation Network (IN) will speed up innovation and SME engagement through proactive brokered collaborations and networking, including B2B and knowledge base-2-B, to introduce SMEs to the knowledge base staff, facilities and resources.

Flexible co-funded grant scheme

A flexible two stage funding programme, an innovation voucher and follow on project award. This £1m grant programme will aim to part fund access to the staff, skills, knowledge and resources of the knowledge base that would be beyond an SME at the moment.

This position is offered on a fixed term basis until 31 December 2019 and will be based at University of Southampton Science Park with some travel across the Solent LEP area and further travel to the SETsquared centres across the South of England. 

You will have experience of working in a large commercial or public sector organisation and experience of project managing a multi-partner programme. A proven track record in the supporting programme delivery of activities, ideally the Higher Education sectors would be advantageous.

Reporting into the University of Southampton Business Acceleration team, you will work alongside the existing SETsquared incubation team at the University of Southampton supporting the Programme Manager for the European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) programmes and other enterprise programmes. Providing assistance to the ERDF Executive team and delivery partners to monitor the successful implementation  of the programme, by delivering the ERDF programme of activities, enabling and facilitating interactions with partner Universities and other stakeholders  and promoting the success of the University enterprise activities both internally and externally.

It is part of the European Regional Development Funding programme for the Solent Local Economic Partnership and as such it will also incorporate the ERDF administrative function.
