The School of Psychology at the University of Plymouth is recruiting to a fixed term Clinical Tutor (Academic Lecturer) post with the Doctorate Programme in Clinical Psychology, initially for a 9 month period at 0.4 FTE to cover Cornwall. The Plymouth Doctorate programme is the sole provider of clinical psychology training within Cornwall and has built strong relationships with service leads, supervisors, service providers and service users which are highly valued.

The Clinical Psychology Programme in Plymouth is nationally recognised for its innovative approach to learning, values based practice, and its philosophical commitment to critical psychology . It strives to deliver high quality clinical training in the South West Peninsula Region. Service receivers are fully included in all aspects of programme delivery. The programme is approved by the Health and Care Professions Council and recently re-accredited by the British Psychological Society. Commendations included clear values based philosophy and reflective practice, service receiver involvement, staff commitment, and strong leadership and teamwork in challenging times. The Programme anticipates an annual intake of 11 trainees for 2018, with 40 trainees currently enrolled.

There is also interest within psychology and the medical school to develop alternative frameworks to diagnosis for understanding emotional distress

You will contribute primarily to the work of the Clinical Tutor team, managing placement co-ordination and trainee appraisal. You will also be responsible for contributing to other aspects of programme delivery depending on your field of expertise. You will join a team of nine part-time staff, all fully committed to training professionals to meet the changing needs of health and social care services.

The Clinical Tutor team is lead by Annie Mitchell (Clinical Director) who holds professional management for Clinical Tutors and co-ordinates all aspects of the placement side of the Programme. The team provides a caring environment to ensure that trainees experience a high quality of learning and support while they are on clinical placements. Line management is held by Dr Jacqui Stedmon (Programme Director), accountable to the Head of the School of Psychology.

This exciting vacancy offers opportunity for developing skills in teaching, supervisor training and CPD, and engaging with research.  You must be registered with the Health and Care Professions Council and have experience of supervising trainees. Knowledge of Cornwall services is desirable.
