Job Description:

The Non-Destructive Testing (NDT) Section within Integrity Management Group (IMG) at TWI has grown its business significantly through success in attracting funding for UK and EU projects and an increase in demand for its services for non-routine inspections across a variety of industry sectors.

Project outputs often involve the design, development and manufacture of prototypes to Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6, and where they display opportunity for continued exploitation, products receive further support to move towards TRL8 or 9, close to market ready.  To facilitate a coordinated approach in moving prototypes to TRL6 and beyond, TWI IMG are establishing a Product Development Team to assist all projects in the latter stages realise their full potential.  We seek a talented and ambitious Engineer to be part of the new team working on mid to high TRL for our growing range of projects.

Duties include: 

  • Design, develop, produce, test and debug system electronics
  • Specify, design, implement, debug and validate technical solutions
  • Participate in feasibility analysis, project scoping, resource planning and cost estimating providing realistic task durations for schedule/milestone planning
  • Liaison with software, mechanical design and production engineers on the team to achieve successful outcomes to budget and timescale
  • Supervision of NSIRC student
  • Mentoring, guidance and support to NSIRC postgraduate industrial research projects

Skills Include:  

  • Good team and networking abilities, communication and presentation skills
  • Demonstrable initiative and self-motivation, strong verbal and written communication skills 
  • Relevant industrial experience in the design and testing of electronics, experience with embedded systems design
  • Proficiency with the design, development, test and analysis tools relevant to the function with practical hands-on experience in electronics.

This role requires regular travel within the UK and occasionally overseas according to the demands of project work.
