Job Description:

Project outputs often involve the design, development and manufacture of prototypes to Technology Readiness Level (TRL) 6, and where they display opportunity for continued exploitation, products receive further support to move towards TRL8 or 9, close to market ready.  

To facilitate a coordinated approach in moving prototypes to TRL6 and beyond, TWI IMG are establishing a Product Development Team to assist all projects in the latter stages realise their full potential, and the NDT Section seeks talented individuals to build this capability. We seek a talented and ambitious Engineer to form this new team working on mid to high TRL for our growing range of projects.

Duties include: 

  • Design, develop, produce, test and mechanical and mechatronic systems
  • Generation of 3D CAD concepts and designs, production of detailed drawings
  • Manufacturing specifications, while ensuring design solutions are suitable for small scale production
  • Participate in feasibility analysis, project scoping, resource planning and cost estimating providing realistic task durations for schedule/milestone planning
  • Liaison with software, electronic and mechanical engineers on the team to achieve successful outcomes to budget and timescale
  • Mentoring, guidance and support to NSIRC postgraduate industrial research projects
  • Participation at technology advisory panels relating to structural integrity for NSIRC

Skills Include:

  • A good engineering degree or HND and relevant industrial experience in the design and testing of electronics is essential
  • A good mixture of analytical, experimental and creative capabilities
  • Proven working experience in mechanical or mechatronic engineering
  • Minimum 3 year experience with a recognised CAD product; Solidworks, Autodesk Inventor
  • Experience in product development in an industrial or consultancy environment
  • Demonstrate some knowledge of Non Destructive Testing principles and application
  • Aptitude for finding creative, practical solutions to challenging design problems
